Comedian Phyllis Shulman Announces "Lose It Laughing" Classes
Weight CAN be a laughing matter, according to local comedian and actress Phyllis Shulman.
Shulman announces that she will be hosting a series of "Lose It Laughing" classes at the Center for Spiritual Living, located at 12875 Fee Fee Road in Creve Coeur, Missouri.
The first of three "Lose It Laughing" meetings will take place from 6:30 until 8:30 pm on Thursday, July 12, 2012. The additional dates for the "Lose it Laughing" sessions are Thursday, July 19 th and 26th.
"Lose it Laughing" will feature Phyllis Shulman providing information through a comedic presentation, using humor to motivate and educate attendees with anecdotal stories and helpful hints for weight loss success.
The topics of the three sessions will be "Let's Find A Reason To Lose It Laughing" on July 12; "Diet Is A Four Letter Word" on July 19; and "Move It And Lose It" on July 26.
Shulman was an overweight child, and she doesn't think our nation's problem with being overweight is one bit funny. She is on a mission to make people laugh while inspiring them to lose weight and keep it off. The concept for "Lose It Laughing" was born from Phyllis' passion to fight obesity.
"In this country, we've never had more information on how to lose weight, yet as a nation, we keep getting fatter," notes Shulman. "There are many diseases which can be avoided with the adoption of a healthy diet and moderate exercise – diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, cancers and many more."
Shulman knows that humor works in the battle of the bulge, not only for herself but for others as well. She comments "I have found that humor has made a difference for very serious health concerns – particularly for those people who are overweight and need a push to get started."
Phyllis has traveled the country and given many motivational presentations with her dynamic comedy routines. Over the past several years, Phyllis Shulman has been part of a team educating people about serious health issues in a light hearted way, through a program called "Laugh It Off!" Shulman has made these presentations to health care providers, community audiences, marketing departments of pharmaceutical companies, families and children at camp, camp leaders, teachers and administrators, health expos, women's groups, and other organizations.
Shulman draws her material from her own experience with weight loss. As a lifetime member of Weight Watchers®, a member of the Jewish Community Center and a dedicated walker and swimmer, she has "walked the walk and talked the talk" – it was through her own struggles that Phyllis discovered that what motivated her was to look at the funny side of creating lifestyle changes. She notes, "Healthy habits are a lifetime battle".
And Shulman knows her comedy. As a professional actress and comedian, she earned an Emmy Nomination for her television work, and appeared in the Bill Murray movie "Larger Than Life". Phyllis has taken on projects such as "The Vagina Monologues". She's toured with and opened for some of the hottest headliners and comedic actors including Bill Engvall, Kevin James, and Brian Regan. Phyllis wrote a humor book "Discover Me", which was released Spring 2005. She also wrote and starred in "TWO JEWELS", a one woman stage show. She also wrote and produced "Raw Honey", a hysterical stage show with original music and lyrics.
Admission to each "Lose It Laughing" will be $5 per person (cash only), payable at the door of the Center for Spiritual Living.
And at the July 26th session, Alvin Glazier - a Certified Health & Fitness Specialist & Personal Trainer with 20 years of experience - will be on hand to talk about fitness as a part of a total weight loss plan.
