St. Patrick Center And Whole Foods MarketŪ Report Community Support Day Is A Success
St. Patrick Center announced today that thanks to Whole Foods Market and its customers, $9,231 will be donated in support of the agency's City Seeds Urban Farm program. This donation comes from Whole Foods Market's Community Support Day held on Thursday, July 12.
Both the Brentwood and Town & Country Whole Foods Market locations donated five percent of the entire day's net sales (July 12) in support of City Seeds Urban Farm.
St. Patrick Center clients, volunteers and staff were on hand to showcase facets of the City Seeds Urban Farm. Customers were able to participate in a recipe scavenger hunt, make cards with dried flowers directly from the farm, watch lip balm being made and view a display of artwork drawn by City Seeds Urban Farm clients.
"We would like to thank the Brentwood and Town & Country Whole Foods Markets and their customers for their generous support," said St. Patrick Center CEO Tom Etling. "We are so honored to have been chosen as one of the quarterly Community Support Day recipients. The funds donated will have a tremendous impact on the lives of our clients working at City Seeds Urban Farm as well as those who will come to us in the future to build permanent, positive change in their lives."
City Seeds Urban Farm is an urban agriculture initiative providing job training and therapeutic horticulture to individuals who are homeless and underserved. A collaboration of several local organizations, City Seeds Urban Farm produces and distributes affordable, healthy, locally grown produce. The therapeutic horticulture program lasts 15 weeks, twice each year. The 15-week program teaches clients how to grow food, improving the nutrition literacy of clients and building a strong connection to clients' recovery goals through the 12 Steps of Gardening, nature journaling, maintaining personal beds and working collectively at City Seeds Urban Farm. Therapeutic horticulture serves clients overcoming homelessness, mental illness, chronic addiction and/or prison release.
St. Patrick Center provides opportunities for self-sufficiency and dignity to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Individuals and families build permanent, positive change in their lives through safe and affordable housing, sound mental and physical health, and employment and financial stability.
