Race With A Mission At The 14th Annual Susan G. Komen St. Louis Race For The Cure On June 23
On Saturday, June 23, join the local fight against breast cancer at the 14th Annual Susan G. Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure, locally presented by Wells Fargo Advisors. Register for the Race online at www.komenstlouis.org.

The Race will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the wheelchair start, followed by the start for the 5K timed runners at 8:35 a.m. The 5K untimed runners start at 8:40 a.m., and the 1-Mile Fun Walk starts at 9 a.m. The awards ceremony begins at 9:45 a.m. on the main stage.

Wells Fargo Advisors, whose headquarters are located in St. Louis, returns for the fifth consecutive year as local presenting sponsor of the Komen St. Louis Race. St. Louis Rams Quarterback Sam Bradford is honorary chair of the 2012 Race.

The timed run, sponsored by FLEET FEET Sports, is a great opportunity for serious runners to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer while pursuing personal running and fitness goals.

The Twitter hashtag for the event is #KomenSTLRace.

Seventy-five percent of the net money raised by the Komen St. Louis Affiliate stays in the Affiliate's 17-county Missouri/Illinois service area to fund life-saving breast health screening, treatment, education and support programs to those who might not otherwise have access. The remaining 25 percent funds national breast cancer research, including research being done in St. Louis.

By registering for the Race, participants are automatically enrolled in the Fundraising for the Cure program, which allows individuals to raise money that will directly impact the St. Louis community. The online site provides each participant his/her own fundraising web page that can be personalized. Friends, family and supporters can go to the participant's page to make donations in support of his/her efforts to find the cures for breast cancer.

Each Race participant is challenged to raise $100 by simply asking ten friends to donate $10. If all St. Louis Race participants met this Power of Ten challenge, they would raise more than $6 million to fund local breast health programs and breast cancer research.

Breast cancer survivors are the inspiration behind the Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure. Registered breast cancer survivors will receive a pink T-shirt and complimentary cap provided by Zeta Tau Alpha and Bank of America, sponsors of the Breast Cancer Survivor Recognition Program. In addition, breast cancer survivors can meet on Race day at the Schnucks Survivor Pavilion and enjoy complimentary breakfast items, massages and souvenir photos.

The Race is the Komen St. Louis Affiliate's signature fundraising event. Since 1999, more than $26 million has been raised in the St. Louis community through events such as the annual Race. Komen St. Louis has awarded more than $19 million in grants to local organizations that deliver breast health services in the local community.

Komen St. Louis has contributed nearly $8 million to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for national breast cancer research since 1999. At the same time, more than $20 million raised here and nationwide has come back to St. Louis-area facilities to fund breast cancer research.
