The Foundry Art Centre Hosts Signature Poetry Reading Events
The Foundry Art Centre is proud to be hosting several significant poetry reading events in January and February, 2012 – "A Night of Poetry at the Foundry Art Centre", and the "Poetry Out Loud" 2012 Regional Competition for St. Charles, Missouri.

The two "A Night of Poetry at the Foundry Art Centre" events will take place on Friday, January 27th and Friday, April 27th, 2012. And the high school-based "Poetry Out Loud" Regional Competition occurs on Wednesday, February 15, 2012.

The two "A Night of Poetry at the Foundry Art Centre" events will feature the region's best published poets as they read from selected works. Each poet will have a table dedicated to meet and greet with guests, as well as sign and sell their poetry books:
  • The January 27th event takes place from 7:00 to 10:00 pm, and the featured poets will include Michael Castro, Peter Carlos, Teddy Norris, Kelli Allen, Dawn Dupler, and Julia Gordon-Bramer.

  • The April 27th poetry event will take place from 7:00 until 9:30 pm, and will highlight Missouri's First Poet Laureate Walter Bargen, along with Howard Schwartz, as each reads from selected works.

Admission to each of the "A Night of Poetry at the Foundry Art Centre" events is $5.00 per person, and a cash bar will be available for guests to purchase refreshments.

The other signature poetry event - the "Poetry Out Loud" 2012 Regional Competition for St. Charles - begins in the classroom as students select poems to recite from the "Poetry Out Loud" anthology of more than 650 classic and contemporary poems.

This high school program follows a pyramid structure - after a classroom contest, champions will advance to a school-wide competition, then to a regional and/or state competition, and ultimately to the National Finals.

The St. Charles Regional Competition for the "Poetry Out Loud" National Recitation Contest takes place on Wednesday, February 15, from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm (weather permitting) and is free and open to the public.

Foundry Art Centre's Executive Director Laura Helling comments, "The Foundry Art Centre is excited to host these high-profile literary events in support of St. Louis' educational and poetic communities." She adds, "Because the Foundry Art Centre is committed to bringing a variety of art, music and culture to the community – including the written and spoken word – we are very pleased to be able to support these talented poets and students at our arts venue."
