The Blackbaud Index of Charitable Giving, a broad-based fundraising index that reports overall giving trends of 2,515 US-based nonprofit organizations representing $7.4 billion in yearly giving on a monthly basis, today reported that charitable giving rose 5% for the three months ending February 2012 as compared to the same period in 2011.

According to Blackbaud’s 2011 Online Giving Report, online giving was up 13% on a year-over-year basis when large International Affairs organizations are removed from the analysis. International Affairs is the only sector that didn’t experience positive growth in 2011, due to the tremendous amount of online giving in 2010 in response to the Haiti earthquake.

According to The Blackbaud Index, fundraising has returned to pre-recession levels. Through the first 11 months of 2011, overall giving is up 3.4% over 2010, and is now officially above the level of giving seen in 2007.

Convio, Inc. released its third annual ranking of the Most Generous Online Cities. Alexandria, VA, Cambridge, MA and Arlington, VA, topped the list for the second year in a row as the nation’s most generous large cities based on online giving in 2010.
